When you say it's only fixable by "reinstalling Windows"-what that says to me is that there is something written in your system that you are unaware of that is stopping the third-party software from working. Polaris is likely finished in terms of driver improvements, I'd guess.

Maybe the thing to do is because your GPU is > ~five years old, or so, that maybe you need to go back to an earlier driver version? Like much earlier. I don't know what you mean by "the change is permanent." You said that "After a recent driver update, ALL of my fan control software doesn't work anymore." So OK, if that's true, then it follows that you can go back to whatever driver you say you were using before the "permanent change" came upon you. ) You should try it-you'll be amazed at how easy it is. The one thing the Adrenalins are not is difficult to use. Or maybe there is some other third-party software that doesn't conflict. I would advise trying to use the Adrenalins to control your AMD hardware-not sure why that hasn't occurred to you. Likewise, this other software you mentioned. In fact, I'm quite sure AMD has no legal right to get in there and monkey with Afterburner. It's up to MSI to correct Afterburner-not AMD. My advice for years has been to uninstall Afterburner completely if you are running the Adrenalins and having stability problems.Īnd I was an Afterburner user for years, and liked the software.but with the Adrenalins AMD began instituting its own lower-level driver controls, and evidently the ones used in Afterburner conflict with those. It caused stability problems that didn't vanish until Afterburner vanished. I actually had to remove it altogether from the system-wasn't enough to simply keep it installed but refrain from using it-I had to uninstall it completely. MSI Afterburner gave me so many problems with the Adrenalins that I didn't know how rock-solid stable my AMD GPU was until I completely removed Afterburner from my system. I feel certain they'll either catch up with AMD or fall away. AMD makes the hardware, AMD writes the drivers it is 100% up to the third-parties to make sure that their software works with the latest AMD bios and driver revisions for those products.

Seriously, it's not up to AMD to be sure and support third-party software written to control its hardware.
